On July 31, 2025, Indian skipper Shubman Gill has broken West Indies great Garry Sobers to register the record for most runs by a visiting captain in a Test series in England. In this series, Shubman Gill has scored 722 runs in the series ahead of the fifth Test against England at the Oval. He has surpassed Sobers after scoring his first runs of the match—a couple off Chris Woakes through midwicket.

West Indies great Garry Sobers scored 722 runs in 8 innings during the Wisden Trophy, which was played in 1966. He made runs, averaged a whopping 103.14 in that series, and registered three centuries and two fifties.

Followed by Graeme Smith, Allan Border, and Virat Kohli have scored 714 runs in 9 innings (2003), 597 runs in 11 innings (1985), and 593 runs in 10 innings (2018) respectively.
