Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy has completed a dream year with the ball as the leading wicket-taker in T20Is amongst Test-playing nations in 2025. He has also become the second-highest wicket-taker for India in a calendar year in T20I cricket. The 34-year-old mystery spinner has been successful in rewriting record books during the fifth and final T20I against South Africa at Ahmedabad. He took 4/53 in four overs and finished the series as the leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets at an average of 11.20 at an economy rate of 7.46.
In 2025, Varun took 36 wickets in 20 matches and 18 innings at an average of 13.19 and an economy rate of 7.08, along with a five-wicket haul and four-fer to his name, and best figures being 5/24. He is equal to Pakistan’s Mohammed Nawaz (36 wickets) for the joint-most wickets in 2025.
