They defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the final match and ended their 17-year trophy drought. Brennan Johnson hit the winning goal as Tottenham secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League next season.

When did Tottenham Hotspur ever win the Europa League?

Tottenham Hotspur won the Europa League before, as the UEFA Cup when they received the trophy in the 1971-72 and 1983-84 seasons.

In 1972, Spurs won their first UEFA Cup by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 on aggregate.

They defeated Belgian side Anderlecht 4-3 on penalties after the two-legged tie finished 2-2 on aggregate in the 1983-84 season.

In 2009, the UEFA Cup was rebranded as the Europa League, and is the second-tier European club competition, ranked below the UEFA Champions League.
